Multipurpose Center VNSO Park

Multipurpose Center VNSO Park

There are currently many improvements taking place at the VNSO park.

I have searched many different sources to find and verify the scope and purpose of the projects and this is what I found.  Basically, they are divided into 2 different projects.  One is centered around the East Valley Multipurpose Center.  This will create 3 new buildings and improve the parking, landscape and surrounding areas to create a state of the art facility.  This is scheduled to be completed in the begining of 2011.  The other project addresses the soccer fields and many other atheletic facilities at the park.  Below I have summarized some of the information about the Multipurpose Center Project.

Project Description Construction of a new facility for senior citizens of Van Nuys Sherman Oaks and the East Valley, comprised of three new buildings and outdoor improvements, and the demolition of two existing senior citizens center buildings at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park. The new facility has a total floor area of 17,319 square feet. The two existing buildings to be demolished have areas of 6,033 and 2,273 square feet respectively. The bigger building is constructed of reinforced masonry walls with flexible diagram framework, built-up roof, while the smaller building is of wood frame construction with stucco exterior and sloping asphalt roof. The first building will be used for multi-purpose activities; the second will house the administrative staff; and the third building will be utilized for fitness programs and classrooms. The project will also include development of the outdoor areas, the parking lot to be upgraded with new paving, re-striping, trees, and planint areas, the installation of security fencing, outdoor lighting, shuffle board courts, outdoor seating, hardscaping, landscaping.  Also, the facility will be equipped with an emergency generator, so that it can also be used as an emergency evacuation center in time of disasters.  The new center will expand senior citizens recreational programs to include the charitable senior programs of the Valley Interfaith Council which is currently located at 5000 Colfax Avenue in North Hollywood which will all be moved to the new center.
